Early today George Scithers passed away from complications from diabetes. He was the first editor of ISSAC ASIMOV'S SCIENCE FICTION MAGAZINE and early on established the magazine as the pre-eminent newsstand showcase for genre poetry. At the same time THE MAGAZINE OF FANTASY AND SCIENCE FICTION made a decision to stop buying poetry. A strange decision for a magazine that proclaimed itself the 'NEW YORKER' of science fiction . However it has started to buy poetry again but not at the level of IASFM.
After he left ASIMOV'S he went to AMAZING which already had established a policy of buying poetry.
